Formerly known as the San Diego Wild Animal Park, the Safari Park was first built as an extension of the San Diego Zoo. Now housing over 3,500 animals, the Safari Park features open-range enclosures and habitats in a more spacious design than the San Diego Zoo downtown, including the African Woods and Nairobi Village pavilions.Directions from the hotel: Head north along Interstate Highway 5 until you reach Highway 78 (Ronald Packard Freeway). Drive east along Highway 78 past Interstate Highway 15 and into the town of Escondido. Stay on Highway 78 even as it becomes E Lincoln Ave. Turn right onto N Ash St and go south as this street becomes San Pasqual Valley Rd. Stay along this road until the main entrance to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
